Lore
There was a small human exploring the rocks. Holes, caves, rocks everywhere! For a boy his age, it was quite exciting. Then he came across a hole that spoke to him differently than any of the other holes had. He wanted to climb in it.
Curiosity and caution fought within him, and caution put up a great fight! Caution had won. The boy walked away. At least he tried. He felt as though a black hole was sucking him into the hole. The hole caution warned him away from. And he fell in.
He was terrified when he looked below. Rocks. He was falling to his death. Curiosity had led him astray. But then he felt his body changing. And this wasn’t the dreaded puberty he heard tales of. It was changing much worse than that.
When at last he landed on the ground, he realized he had wings! He had turned into a…a…dragon??? At first he was extremely confused, but eventually Jacob, for that was the boy’s name, adjusted nicely and began enjoying long flights around the land.
He was really excited when he saw a female dragon flying around. She was long, and thin, and very noodly. She was a spiral named Katie. He wanted to talk to her and be her friend so badly, but he didn’t dare. He wasn’t really too shy…it’s just…she had a mate.
A snapper named Dave. They had no eggs, no hatchlings, but that didn’t change their relationship at all and Jacob didn’t want to get into something like that. So he didn’t talk to her at all.
Thankfully, he didn’t have to. She made the first move! She came up to him one day, while he wasn’t paying attention and said in a soft shy voice,
“I like your beard.”
“Oh thanks, I grew it myself!”
She laughed. “I’m Katie.”
He already knew that, but wanted to avoid sounding like a creeper, so just said, “I’m Jacob.”
“I like your familiar.” She gestured toward the bear that was curled up by his feet.
“Oh him? His name is Caesar. I’ve always said that if I was any other animal, I would be a bear.”
She laughed again. He liked her laugh. “I would be a cat, like my familiar.”
“Cat or kitty?”
“Is there a difference?”
“I think kitties are cuter.”
“Oh.” She shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“Do you mind if I call you kitty sometimes?”
She laughed, “Sure, but I’ll call you bear.”
“Sounds good!”
“Oh, I have to go!” She jumped quickly and flew in a small circle, “Gentleness was going to teach me a new song, and Dave was wanting me for something.”
Of course. Jacob remembered Dave. “Well, have fun!”
“Thanks, I will!” She smiled at him and flew away, leaving him hoping no one thought he had been flirting with a taken dragon.
As the days went on, Jacob continued to see Katie, but always with Dave. He had been honorable as a human, and he would continue to be honorable as a dragon. He would not pursue this taken dragon. He would not. And he didn’t. He remained just friends with her, and just friends with Dave.
But he saw the way Dave treated her…and it didn’t make him happy. One day it just got to be too much for Jacob. He positioned himself between Katie and Dave and roared in Dave’s face. He wasn’t sure what happened after that, until he saw Katie lying on the ground, shaking, scared and hurt.
He wasn’t sure how, but he gently picked her up and carried her to his sleeping grounds, and laid her on the ground. He watched her like a hawk to make sure she didn’t stop breathing and that her heart was always beating and to be sure that no one, especially not Dave, came near her. He nursed her back to health…and in the process fell hard for her.
He was surprised when he found her cuddling up next to him before she fell asleep one night, but was perfectly fine with it. And he also knew he had to tell her how he felt. She was frightened at first, but soon relaxed to the idea.
He couldn’t take it anymore though. He wanted her to be his mate. So he asked her! She was even more worried by that question, and retaliated by asking him a ton of questions of her own.
Would he ever leave her? No. Would he be okay with waiting for eggs? Yes. Could he just cuddle her for a long time and not do anything else? Definitely. And even more questions. He was so scared she would say no.
Finally, the torrent of questions quieted and she looked up at him, worry in her eyes, “And I can be your kitty forever?”
He nodded.
“And I wouldn’t have to share with anyone?”
“Not even with Caesar.”
“And you’ll never leave?”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
She lowered her head. “I’d like to be yours….”
“Then you can be.” He touched his face to hers, “And I promise I will never, ever leave you.”
Diary

I woke up this morning...guess what...A tiny (not so tiny anymore) little hatchling (nope, she's fully grown now!) has painted my spines. PINK. Purity................

Well, after Purity painted my spines, I was a bit irritated and told her that she was grounded. *sigh* She saw right through me. She's too much like her mother. And of course I love them both.

Katie and I received a letter from Tori (daughter who went away to a plague lair, often visited by dragons in our lair) today. She's apparently mates with a dragon from our lair! Cobalt. I better get to sharpening my claws and writing a menacing letter to that dragon...just as a precaution, I won't ACTUALLY hurt him.

Katie and I have adopted a parentless dragon. His name is Cheeto. Fitting, because he looks exactly like a cheeto. Katie told me that we had to "adopt" him. Technically, I suppose we haven't really adopted him, but now he sleeps with us and our little family, hangs around Volt and Dante all the time, and seems to fit in well. He's a good little spiral.
