Lore
"Biron, I have a request." Jacob, Biron's father, approached him as he studied.
"Hmm?" Biron didn't look up, his book was much too interesting.
"Your mother and I have many duties that we must attend to, and as you're aware, your younger brother, Volt, tends to get into trouble. Dante is no help at keeping him out of trouble, so do you suppose you would be able to keep an eye on them? Mostly Volt."
"Yes, sure."
"Did you hear a word I said?"
"Mhm."
"Alright then...."
Jacob walked away, and Biron's head jerked up. Uh. He had been listening...sort of. He was reading All About Humans, written by a very famous dragon. It was extremely interesting and enlightening. He groaned when he realized what he had agreed to. He was not good at taking care of hatchlings. And his siblings were no different. He groaned again. Not Volt.
Volt always got into trouble. He enjoyed pranks. He had a steady collection of sleeping and itching powder, and no one knew how he got it. He was, in short, a bit of a nuisance.
"Hey, brother." Purity, their sister, nuzzled him before lying down beside him. "How's the research going?"
"It's going okay. Did you know that humans don't mate for life? A good majority of them don't."
"There are plenty of dragons that don't mate for life."
"Most of the ones in our clan do."
"True, but still not all of them."
"I wonder which is healthier."
"I suppose it all depends on the situation."
Biron sighed. "Maybe. I enjoy all this learning."
"I know you do. I know exactly what to get you for your birthday."
"Books?" Biron laughed.
Purity smiled in a way that said yes.
"Daddy just asked me if I would be willing to keep an eye on Volt...."
"Aww, why wouldn't he ask me to do it?"
Biron turned and stared at his sister. She was not known for her reliability. She was known well for her many, many, short-lived fads and obsessions.
She laughed. "Okay, fine, makes sense. You should feel honored."
"I am a babysitter, Purity. I could be spending babysitting time on reading!"
"Silly, boy."
"Don't call me a silly boy, you're starting to sound like Tinker Bell."
"Wait, you mean to tell me that you've been reading fiction?"
"Only a little bit. Human literature is interesting."
"Well, you know as well as I do that Tinker actually called him MUCH worse than that."
"Oh, you read human literature as well?"
"Only a bit. I would really like to get those things they call 'movies'."
"Hmmm...."
"So, are you gonna go watch Volt?"
Biron groaned. "I guess, if I have to."
"Daddy said so...." Purity reminded him in a sing-songy voice.
He groaned again.
"Go on...it sounds like you're scared of our little brother...." Purity teased.
Biron rose up and towered over his sister "You should be scared of your big brother."
"Why, what's he gonna do?" Purity bounced away, remarkably light for a guardian.
"He hasn't decided yet." He sighed, "He has to go babysit his LITTLE brother."
"Who's gonna watch Dante?"
"Technically I will be."
"Technically?"
"We all know that Dante can take care of himself. I gotta go, sis. Love you."

He quietly snuck up behind Volt, who was whispering in Dante's ear. Great, another hairbrained scheme.
"What are you doing?" He asked in a deep, rumbly voice.
"Oh, nothing, Biron! What are you doing?" Volt looked up innocently.
"I've been charged with babysitting you."
Volt's face fell. "Aww, but Dante can do that!"
"Oh, I'm sure."
"Well, that's settled, come on, Dante, you're my babysitter now."
"Nope, don't think so. That was sarcasm, my boy."
"Oh."
So, Biron spent his days watching his younger brother. And trying to read. He still couldn't keep Volt out of trouble. Volt was trouble embodied. But he tried.
